Supporting and Growing Independent Medicine

For more than five decades, Surgical Associates, PC has been a trusted name in surgical care in Lincoln and across Nebraska, combining advanced surgical expertise with compassionate, personalized care.

The practice traces its roots to the early 1970s, when Dr. Richard Toren and Dr. Lloyd Tenney formed Surgical Associates of Lincoln, PC. Originally located in the Lincoln General Hospital Professional Building, the practice grew and evolved over the decades while maintaining a consistent goal: to provide excellence in surgical care.

Today, Surgical Associates continues that tradition with eight surgeons and more than 120 years of combined surgical experience. Its mission is simple but meaningful: to offer premier surgical solutions combined with compassionate, personalized care.

A Commitment to Innovation

Throughout its history, Surgical Associates has embraced advances in surgical care, helping set the standard in Lincoln for minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgical techniques.

That commitment to innovation continues today. Dr. Hung, Dr. Jobst and Dr. Tabatabai serve as proctors for the Intuitive Surgical da Vinci robotic platform, helping advance the use of robotic-assisted surgery.

Dr. Jobst has also worked with Virtual Incision and its MIRA surgical robotics platform as one of the company’s primary test physicians since its inception. His work with the technology has extended far beyond Nebraska: Dr. Jobst participated in an extraordinary demonstration in which the surgical platform aboard the International Space Station was controlled from Earth.

For Surgical Associates, however, technology is ultimately a tool for accomplishing something much more personal—providing exceptional care for each patient.

Comprehensive Surgical Expertise

Surgical Associates provides a broad range of general and specialized surgical services, from routine procedures to complex cases. Areas of expertise include bariatric surgery, breast surgery, colorectal surgery and numerous general surgery procedures.

The practice also offers specialized treatment options not widely available in the region. Surgical Associates is the only surgical practice in Lincoln offering the LINX procedure for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and the only surgical practice in Nebraska offering sacral neuromodulation for the treatment of fecal incontinence.

Regardless of the procedure, care is individualized from the initial surgical referral through post-surgical follow-up. The team’s goal is to ensure patients understand their options and feel informed, supported and empowered throughout their care.

That philosophy reflects a core belief shared across the practice: every patient deserves compassionate, exceptional care rooted in surgical expertise.

Growing While Remaining Independent

Surgical Associates has experienced significant change since its beginnings in the 1970s. In 2003, the practice moved to the new St. Elizabeth’s Medical Plaza, and in 2006, Surgical Associates of Lincoln shortened its name to Surgical Associates, PC.

Another important milestone came in 2018, when the practice purchased and moved into its current location in Taylor Meadows Office Park at 1001 S. 70th St. in Lincoln. Ownership of its facility helped solidify the practice’s independent presence in the Lincoln community for years to come.

More recently, Surgical Associates expanded its reach by adding an office in west Omaha, where its surgeons see patients several days each month.

The practice works collaboratively with healthcare organizations and facilities throughout the region, including Lincoln Surgical Hospital, Bryan Health, Doctors Outpatient Surgery Center, Advanced Medical Imaging, CHI Health, Nebraska Surgery Center, Lakeside Hospital and Lakeside ASC.

More than 50 years after Dr. Toren and Dr. Tenney established the practice, Surgical Associates continues to grow, learn and embrace new surgical techniques while remaining grounded in the principles on which it was founded.

Its surgeons’ commitment to continuing education, technical excellence, compassion and independence ensures that Surgical Associates remains focused on what has mattered from the beginning: providing excellent surgical care while treating every patient as an individual.
